The preschoolers start learning the handling of pencil right from the tracing activities of lines. The straight lines in vertical or horizontal directions are the best starting point for a new starter.
Altogether there are three types of lines which can help children to develop fine motor skills, pencil grip, early writing, and hand-eye coordination.
Three types of straight lines
- Vertical lines: Vertical lines start from top to bottom. These are also called standing lines.
- Horizontal lines: Horizontal lines start from left to right. These are also called sleeping lines.
- Diagonal lines: Diagonal lines are drawn from one corner to another corner and are known by the name of slanting lines.
Letters and numbers with straight lines
The tracing of straight lines prepares the children to write the English letters such as A, E, F, H, I, K, L, T, X, and Y. Similarly, the numbers that can be practiced are 1, 4 and 7.
Maths Query provides a set of all worksheets related to tracing of standing lines, sleeping lines and the slanting lines. The worksheets are crisp, clear and spacious so that kids can learn writing effectively.
